The classic city simulation game returns to the Mac!In SimCity™ 4, you don’t just build your city; you breathe life into it. Sculpt mountains, dig riverbeds, and seed forests as you lay the groundwork for your creation. Then, use your god-like powers to construct the most realistic metropolis you can imagine.Whether you want to build mansions on mountainsides or cross canyons with bridges, the impact of your decisions is immediate. But while each click of the mouse can create, it has equal capacity to destroy.
Capping an erupting volcano might save your city, or it might reroute lava down busy city streets. Sending police to quell a riot might calm down the crowd, or it might spur even further anarchy. With every decision you make, your city and your Sims will respond – for better or for worse.
It’s up to you to be their guide. The SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition includes both SimCity 4 and the Rush Hour expansion pack, which gives you more control over your city’s transportation options, plus two bonus disasters: UFO attack and Autosaurus Wrecks. We even included the exclusive Mac “Custom Tunes” feature that allows your iTunes library to be played in the game!. (Buy the app for free but the only way to get ahead is to pour money into it.) Figured I'd rather just pay for the most up-to-date SimCity and have it all there for me.Shockingly, I enjoyed the smartphone version better. First and foremost, if you're a graphics person, this game isn't for you. Originally this game came out in the early 2ks and the graphics are comparable to the Sims for GameBoy Advance. The frames per second rate for this game was surprisingly good, there was minimal lag.
(On a 2014 Pro w/ integrated graphics) However, I did notice the game consistently sends me back to my computer login screen, or sends me to the Mac Launchpad when I'm scrolling. It's annoying and happens at the worst times. It has yet to fully crash on me and actually lose the progress. This game is fine, but I'd place it around $10 rather than $19.99. If you really want to play Sims, you're better off getting the Sims 2 Complete Collection on the Apple Store for not much more. The only time this game might be worth it is if you actually played it when it first came out and you're rekindling your love for SimCity for the sake of 'old times'.
Works great on my 13-inch Macbook 2011 3/5. I was weary to download this because of the price and the repeated reviews saying that the game would not launch.
My greatest fear came true when I attempted to launch for the first time and it failed. However, by going into the game settings from the launch window, if you select one of the different aspect ratios for your screen, the game will launch and run just fine.As for the game itself, it is a timeless city running simulation.
While the graphics haven’t held up too well to today’s standards, the gameplay is overall intuitive and addicting. SimCity is a classic game that is certainly worth the high price. Additionally, it is worth noting that many of the major glitches I had encountered playing this game as a child seem to be corrected. Overall great game. Just as I remember it 5/5. This game was so cheap that I had to give it a try, despite the poor reviews.
So far, I’ve had no problems running it on a 5,1 quad core Mac Pro with Radeon 7870, so I’m not sure if some folks just don’t have the power to run this as the developer says (a little odd for a game that I recall playing on single core systems running Windows XP). For those that are complaining about graphical quality, that needs to be adjusted accordingly in game. Despite my more-than-adequate system, the game defaulted to a lesser resolution. Once corrected, my system has no trouble playing the game at 1080P with all the quality settings maxed out. I’ve played it for over an hour with no crashes or slowdowns, and it looks exactly like the Windows version that I wasted absurd amounts of time playing when this game first came out. Game data appears to be saved in your User folder, it’s just hidden a few layers down. Thanks for the memories and another reason not to dual boot!. You’ll get addicted again.

I had a iMac 2015 27' (comes with magic mouse). The game was not usable because it kept zooming in and out wildy making gameplace IMPOSSIBLE.
I was told 'just adjust mouse settings' and trusted them didn't return it. Later when I tried it (2 ways): still impossible, it was a ruse to delay me from returning it.I now am running on Mac Mini 2012: freshly seated copy of Sierra. I get the message below despite adjusting settings at pre-game dialog either way. The sales page does not say the game has serious hardware support issue: LET ME TELL YOU IT DOES AND THE COMPANY IS ILLEGALLY DENYING RETURNS.(the have well known hidden defects they know of, but do not work with customers who are by definition effected by the defects)Process: Sim City 4 Deluxe Editionsub 3346Path: /Applications/Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition.app/Contents/MacOS/Sim City 4 Deluxe EditionsubIdentifier: com.aspyr.simcity4.appstoreVersion: 1.1.1 (134367)Code Type: X86 (Native)Parent Process:???

Bummed, want a refund 1/5. The first time I loaded the game it worked fine. But it hasn’t worked since.
I can’t get the mouse to operate some of the essential city building icons. The game speed will not change, I can’t open the. icon to save a game, change regions or settingsnothing. I contacted Aspyr and they had me erase some files somewhere and reload the game. Still will not work.
Neither Apple or Aspyr will give me my money back. I will EVER, FOREVER NEVER buy another Aspyr game again.
I downloaded virtual box and loaded up windows xp and loaded my windows version and am now playing the game. It wasn’t easy but trying to get help from Aspyr was useless. Don’t know what people are talking about 5/5. Beleive all the one star reviews. DON’T PURCHASE THIS GAME FROM THE App Store! The graphics are nowhere remotely close to what was advertised.
When I zoom in on my city, the graphics are so bad that I litterally see boxed pixels. I’m really mad because this was not a cheap game, 20$, and when I purchase something from the apple app store I’m expecting it to function properly. When apple posts pictures of the graphics on their website and they are this far from the actual game, I am at the point that I want my money back.DON’T BUY!. Glad there are still classics 4/5. After having owned and played SimCity 2000, 3000, and 4, I’m quite attached to my SimCity series!
I keep a PowerBook G3 around just to play SC 2000 natively. I was about to install Windows on my MBPr, but then I noticed one day SC4 is here in the app store! So, I purchased it and launched itto find myself immersed in wonderful, original gameplay. It plays flawlessly on my Late 2013 MBPr 15”.
It was $20 well spent! I’m so glad they brought this game into the Intel Mac world so gracefully. I haven’t noticed anything to complain about!
I spend hours in this game. However, those of you who like trainers to cheat, I’m not sure you’ll have an easy time finding those for this version of SC4 on Intel Macintoshes. I haven’t tried, but it just came to mind. one of the worst games I ever played 1/5. Jon anderson in the city of angels raritan school district. Works fine on 10.8.5. Old but gold!
I recommend this game to anyone who is looking to kill some time. It's like a virtual garden, but with buildings. Recommend playing on medium settings for a balance of performance and aesthetics. 1 star off because the game is not perfect, the only problem with it is it may freeze or crash at times (rare but possible), but that is why you save. It is either my mac that is the problem or the game regarding the crashing, otherwise its a satisfying purchase!. crashes every session.
I have a hard time playing this game because every time I do its always a matter of time before it crashes & I loose all progress. I even stopped playing it for months but then played it again today and after 2 hours BAM! I shold get a refund as I never once had a single problem on Windows opperation but nothing but limitations and crashing on MacBook Air early 2015 & fully updated. These problems existed from day one. So sad because its my all time favorite computer game. Broken mess 1/5.
I downloaded this app despite the one star reviews because I’ve had this game in the past and loved it and most of the complaints were about how plugins got deleted with the update. I was never really big into mods or plugins and liked to play the game as it was so I didn’t think much of the negative reviews. I wish I hadn’t bought the game, waste of twenty dollars.Since I installed the game, it’s been nothing but one problem after another. I couldn’t zone bigger than a 1x1 area and the city wouldn’t grow even when I gave it a go anyway. On top of that, something in the application made my computer freeze with a manual reset being the only way to get it going again. Even if I wasn’t playing the game, the computer would freeze.
As soon as I uninstalled the game, everything went back to normal.Do yourself a favor, save your money and save aggravation and don’t buy this game. Great Game Just Can’t Play:/ 3/5. I love this game and when I bought it here it ran perfectly and I had no issues even with tons of mods installed but now ever since the update I haven’t been able to even play as for the past month I just click on the SC4 Icon and it doesn’t load up. They’ve had the note saying we’re working on a quick fix but its been a long time and I’m getting aggrivated. RCT3 was like this but fixed in less than a day so what the heck is going on here?UPDATE: The game did the same thing to me again just now (Feb. 2016) and so I did what they said again, reinstall which worked except I LOST ALL CONTENT!
Simcity 4 Android Ports
I am outraged! I lost all my plugins and my maps (which I worked very hard on). I am extremely disapointed and this will definetly be my last purchase from Aspyr. Won’t open 1/5. Ever since the update (which it did on its own; was never asked/prompted to update) the game doesn’t play like it used to. Now when I go to start a new city demand for anything (residential/commercial/industrial) immediately goes into the negative. There’s no way to even get a city off the ground when there’s no demand for anything.
It happens with every single city the moment I begin gameplay. I don’t know what else I can do to try and fix it. Any cities I had before the update seem to be fine, but I can’t create new ones.
Kind of bummed. Absolutely Ridiculous 1/5. “Simply download the mod again” are you joking?
It would have been nice to have had a little warning that everything would be deleted. I didn’t even tell the app to update, it just decided to update itself. It’s not as easy as simply redownloading everything.
I had so many custom buildings, that I will never be able to redownload it all. I can’t even type I am so angry. This is absolutely ridiculous, and I would expect more from Aspyr. If I could give a rating lower than one star, I would.
A Mixed Bag 3/5. This release, while greatly improved with the latest version allowing for the greater use of custom content, is still a bit of a riddle. The Cons:- Night lighting on custom content (created with the official Building Architect Tool, aka BAT) still does not work.
The SimCity 4 Deluxe available for Windows comes fully updated with all official EA/Maxis patches and does not have this issue.- Custom content (aka “plugins”) folders (there are two of them) are located one inside the app (IMHO a bad idea) and the other buried deep in /Library/Containers. Perhaps for most users this is not a problem, but I consider myself to be fairly advanced with the management of this game and I like to have more control over my file system. It wouldn’t be so bad if the game recognized symlinked folders, but it does not seem to do so. (It will recognize symlinked files, however, so the amount of tedium you choose to embark upon to correct this limitation is up to you.
In fairness, the Windows version exhibits this issue as well.)- There is no way to set launch options; just “full screen” or “window”. I like to play in a window that occupies about 90% of my available display - not possible without finer control.- Windows version users familiar with some mods, such as “extracheats.dll” (which isn’t so much cheats but rather a suite of debugging tools) and “DAMN” don’t work. The Pros:- Runs smoothly and quickly, even with a load of custom content. Granted, I didn’t test it on a huge city, so your mileage may vary.- It won’t crash to desktop (CTD) regularly because you have multiple processor cores (which the Windows game can’t handle out-of-the-box).- Fonts and interface appear slightly cleaner than the Windows version.- Energy use is a bit better than running the Windows version in a Virtual Machine.I actually purchased this game on the app store shortly after it came out and was grossly disappointed by the limitations of it vs. The Windows version. After I read that the custom content file count limitation was lifted I decided to give it another whirl, but I’m still not convinced. It’s definitely a viable alternative (for one reason being that I don’t typically use the night mode) but the loss of some flexibility and the above-mentioned content might be a deal breaker. Currently, I have VM and WINE copies of the Windows version which run almost as smoothly and without any real additional investment in time or performance. So in the end, I suppose it boils down to how much you’re trying to invest into the game - if you’re a “power user”, so to speak, I might suggest you stick with the Windows version, which can be had for a very reasonable price from several retailers and which your Mac will run just as well if not better than a comparable Windows PC.
If you don’t mind the cons I listed, then by all means purchase - it’s still a solid version of the pinnacle iteration of one of the most popular PC gaming franchises of all time.Sabretooth78 @ Simtropolis. Great game; but update nukes plugins 4/5.
